Hi Gavin,
Sorry to give you information in dribs and drabs but I want to
check we are on the right track in addressing your points below.
1. Section through all planters to demonstrate that roots may propagate beyond immediate confines. It would be very helpful (possibly essential) to have a brief illustrative demonstration of the ability of the front planters to support small specimen trees (as indicated in DAS - such as Hazel, Holly, Fig etc - showing specification of tree, root ball size etc.
2. Detailed section through basement roof demonstrating at least 500mm of soil cover as per CPG.
As agreed, I have attached an updated plan and section which
show the soil depth on each planted area of the site. Do you need any
more detail than what’s shown here? Given there is unlimited soil depth
for the front planters it would seem that the types of light trees we are
proposing could be easily supported?
Our green roof consultants, ANS (http://www.livingwallsgreenroofs.co.uk/)
have confirmed that our proposed green roofs, which have 200mm of overall
coverage (150mm growing medium and 50mm turf) will be
suitable for leisure use.
We have AECOM looking into your other points. In terms of
mechanical ventilation, we are looking at eliminating air-source heat pumps
entirely by going with a ground-source system instead. We will get you
more detail on that in due course.
